2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY From 1968: the era of psychedelics and hallucinogens Begins with black screen an opera-like intro Production/intro screen has orf the planets Begins at sunrise with “the dawn of man” Everything seems as though its completed uninhabited/wasteland Primitive and survival behavior being shown in the first scene of animals A new group of ape takes over the watering whole (circle of life/survival of the fittest) Each scene involves very nice pastel colors The apes wake up the next day to a monolith, a strange symmetrical structure, appearing to be foreign in nature The apes are in awe Next scene is with a monkey and he begins smashing bones with a bone found from the skeleton Ape realizes he can apply the same concept to survival and hunting He begins standing on two feet more He defends his group with the bones and some other ones join in too They all begin walking on two feet to follow the leader The bone is thrown in the air and cuts to a spaceship flying in space(

Metropolis

- factory workers go in just as tired as they were going in (now) - women worked for toward a mans pleasure instead of their own ambition - Jon Fredersen was amazed/startled by a woman say "Look there are your brothers", yet he runs and chases after her - He walks into the factory to see the prssure rising\ factory workers  - technology divide - factory working = slavery - have/have nots - see the social/wealth gap when he goes to visit his father - father does not want son to son to know about the horrors of the bottom - son expresses concern... we have everything thanks to your brains, but the people who made it happen are subject to the depths of the city (similar to now and how people are exploited for their time and work) - "where they belong" - What if the people rebel - basically a story of how history repeats itself - workers will want to work if you treat them like they are wanted/appreciated - his own narcissism will be his own demise - lack of progressive

Love, Death, and Robots

ZIMA BLUE: Introducing new abstractions  Optimism and dissatisfaction took great sacrifice Technology broke through barriers Fame was never the point More primitive and natural calling Each art piece was not enough Had to reach the top to realize that he must return back to find true satisfaction

About Myself

Hello, My name is Cortland Nelson and I am from Pikesville, Maryland. I am currently a freshman, but by next semester I will be a sophomore. I am a Computer Science major and I love to learn. I expect this class to open my mind up to so many new ways of thinking and help me to gain insight on perspectives I might have not thought of before. For my first class, I really did not know much of what you all were talking about, but after I watch the movie, I predict that I will have a little more understanding in context.
