Ready Player One

This movie begins with a pretty interesting intro. Stacks of houses suggest overcrowding. There's a billboard with an advertisement stating "no pain, no gain" in a simulated game. That's interesting because a simulation is supposed to be just that, and you are not actually not meant to "feel" the experience. The oasis was a virtual experience for people who wanted to escape the harsh reality. People went for the things they could and stayed for the things they could be. If people lost their "lives" in the game, they felt as though their lives were over in reality. The creator of the game died and ceased the progression of the "Gregarious Games", but in his farewell video, there are star trek references (Church of Star Trek). His final message stated that there was a final quest to complete. Wade Watts was destined to make it out of his situation and complete Halliday's game himself, a reference to Percival in the Holy Grail. The industry leader in body suits wants the game for itself just to optimize profits and monopolize, so it tries to cheat and send bounty hunters after Wade. On the way to complete the next challenge for the second key, they try and reflect on the words of Halliday and go to the dance club to search. They get distracted and wade tells Arty his real identity, which is detrimental to his real-life safety. Once IOI finds out about him, they track him down to try and get in contact with him. They try and convince him about their intentions, but I am pretty sure Percival was skeptical about their real intentions. They threaten to kill him but end up killing his aunt in an explosion. He and Arty find each other in the real life and eventually figure out the clues to the next key. IOI eventually figures out where the third challenge is and they try to isolate themselves for the last key as a strategic advantage. An epic civil war breaks out as the citizens try to gain equal ground in the game. Personally, this reminds me of when America gained its independence from Britain. To stop Wade from winning, Nolan activated the cateclyst, which kills everyone in the game. But, Wade had an extra life so he was able to play the game to win the last key. Wade wins and he gets to see Halliday is his own home. He gives him the power of "God" over the Oasis and the egg to make the game Wade's.
